What the shop does
01

Composition

Every line is assembled letter by letter from cases of cast metal and wood type, then locked into a steel chase and proofed until it sits right.

02

Impression

Cotton paper, soft packing and a heavy cylinder press give each page a deep, tactile bite that no screen and no laser ever will.

03

Binding

Saddle-stitched pamphlets, Coptic-sewn notebooks and cloth-cased editions, finished at the bench in runs from ten to five hundred.

From the type cabinet

Forty-one cases, one very stubborn ampersand.

Our cabinets hold faces cut in four centuries, from sturdy old-style romans to a chunky slab found in a flooded cellar. Each has a temperament. We choose the one that suits your words.
